Our Mission

The Office of the Special Envoy for Critical and Emerging Technologies (S/TECH) within the Office of the Secretary is the Department's focal point for strategic technology competition and technology partnerships elevating critical and emerging technologies as a central feature of U.S. diplomacy. The office coordinates the Department's internal work on critical and emerging technology topics of priority to the administration, beginning with artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and quantum information science.
